Saturday Night’s Main Event returned to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New Jersey. The night was certain to include a lot of newsworthy matches, including one that was guaranteed to make history.

During the show, WWE crowned its first Women’s United States Champion. This match went on right after GUNTHER retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat match against Finn Balor and Damian Priest. Chelsea Green and Michin were ready to give their all to win the title. This match was also seven years to the day from Green winning her first pro wrestling championship.

Chelsea Green had Piper Niven with her for this match as she sought her first singles title in WWE. Green’s ring gear was covered of pictures of her own face, and she had one long leg and another short just like Zack Ryder used to wear, which was a nice touch. Michin made her way to the ring as Michael Cole mentioned how she beat Green in that infamous dumpster match in October.

The fact that both of these women are former TNA Knockouts Champions also made it into Michael Cole’s commentary during the match. These two women have a lot of history with each other, and this match only adds to that.

After a back-and-forth match, the finish came when Chelsea Green landed her Unprettier and she secured the win. This made Chelsea Green the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion, and she celebrated in a big way. We can only imagine that celebration will continue.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis first introduced the newly created title during the November 8 episode of SmackDown. The match determined who would make history by becoming the first-ever Women’s United States Champion. It was later announced that the RAW Women’s Division will also get its own Intercontinental Title.

The tournament to determine the inaugural champion featured a tournament of packed matchups. On the December 13 episode of SmackDown, it was confirmed that Chelsea Green would face Michin in the finals at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The venue tonight is significant in WWE history, as it also hosted the very first Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 10, 1985. Nearly 40 years later, Chelsea Green made history as she celebrated a huge title win.
