The December 11 episode of AEW Dynamite delivered a showdown for the ages as Mariah May defended her AEW Women’s World Title against Mina Shirakawa in a hard-fought main event at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. While May emerged victorious, it’s what happened after the match that has fans talking.
Following her loss, Mina Shirakawa took to Twitter to reflect on her performance, defiantly writing, “This is far from over. I will reach the top, no matter what. #AEWDynamite #WeWantMina.” The passionate statement appeared to set the stage for a potential rematch, but Mariah May didn’t hold back in her response.
“Back to modelling you go …. 🏃🏼♀️ I still love you though,” the reigning champion fired back the next day, adding a cheeky dig at Shirakawa’s roots in modeling.
The feud between May and Shirakawa has been simmering since May’s shocking betrayal at Full Gear 2024, and their recent encounter only added fuel to the fire. Despite a valiant effort by Shirakawa, including a near fall after hitting her Glamorous Driver, May retained her title with a decisive Storm Zero finish. Thunder Rosa watched from ringside, further teasing future developments in AEW’s women’s division.
Mariah May, who first captured the title at All In 2024 by defeating Toni Storm, has been on an unstoppable streak. But her stinging comment aimed at Shirakawa suggests this rivalry is far from over. Whether Shirakawa’s determination can overcome May’s arrogance remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the AEW Women’s World Title picture is heating up.
