Kevin Owens has been in the professional wrestling business for 24 years, having started at the age of 16. Given his long career, many people have wondered if his son would follow in his footsteps and become a wrestler and now Owens has addressed the same.
While speaking to Alex McCarthy of Daily Mail, Kevin Owens revealed that his son still has an interest in wrestling, but he is not pushing him to pursue it too soon. Owens explained that he began training at 14 and had his first match at 16, and while he feels great at 40 after 25 years in the business, he believes he could have benefited from starting a little later.
“No, there is still interest but I am not pushing him to do anything he shouldn’t be doing before it is too soon. I started training when I was 14, had my first match at 16, and while I feel pretty great for my age – I am 40 now and have been doing this for 25 years – I probably could have benefited from waiting a few years and starting my career a little later.”
Owens mentioned that the circumstances for his son are different. Owens had no idea where to start when he began his career and always felt like time was against him. Now, with his experience and connections, he knows people who could help his son when the time comes.
For now, his son is focused on school and other activities, and when he’s truly ready to dive into wrestling, he will have all the support and tools available. Owens made it clear that there is no rush, and his son is still growing and developing.
“Obviously the circumstances are not the same for him as they were for me, I had no idea where to start and felt like time was against me at any point of my career because you are not getting any younger. You have got to get your name out there.
Now the way things have changed, I know some people that might be able to help him. He is focusing on his school and other stuff, when he really is ready to dive in head first, he has all the tools at his disposal, so I am not rushing him and he is not in a rush either. He is still growing from what I can tell I think, that’s not going away.”
This comes after Kevin Owens previously revealed that his son had stepped foot inside a wrestling ring for the first time earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether Kevin Owens’ son will pursue a career in professional wrestling in the future, but he certainly has the physical stature for it, already standing at six-foot-eight.
