Kevin Owens has been outspoken about Cody Rhodes for months, and this started after Owens jumped Rhodes in the parking lot after WWE Bad Blood 2024. Now, the two are set to collide at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14. There is a lot of backstory to this feud, and Owens has no trouble talking about it.

Kevin Owens took issue with Rhodes’ self-proclaimed “QB1” moniker. He claimed that the nickname was self-assigned by Cody Rhodes onto himself rather than something others have embraced and called him on their own. It’s hard to argue that the American Nightmare isn’t popular, as his merchandise sales does speak for itself.

During an interview with The South Kongress Podcast, Kevin Owens elaborated on this take that Cody Rhodes gave himself that cool new nickname. He doesn’t seem very happy about the Undisputed WWE Champion picking his own name like that.

“Just what you said now is a great example. Who calls themselves QB1? Who gets the letters QB stitched on their own jacket? There’s nobody going around calling Cody Rhodes the Quarterback, he’s calling himself that. I just find that so insane.”

Kevin Owens also discussed Cody Rhodes’ focus on being a top talent in WWE. He said that this has been one of Rhodes’ obsessions for a long time.

“It’s television, it’s a show, but a few weeks ago, he was standing in the ring when I was on the announce table talking about how I’m obsessed with being a top guy this and that. It actually shocked me how little he knows me in that he thinks that’s what I’m concerned with. Again, I think he can turn all of those things that he said to himself. He’s the one that left in 2016 because he wasn’t happy, didn’t like the opportunities, didn’t like the way he was portrayed, all that stuff. He came back, he was always obsessed with being the top guy, being the quarterback, whatever you wanna call it. I’ve been there, I was there, obsessed. I realized it wasn’t very healthy and eventually my point of view changed. I don’t know, there’s just a limit to how much arrogance I can take, I guess.”

We will have to see what happens between Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes on December 14. Saturday Night’s Main Event has a lot of attention, and the build to the show has received a lot of creative focus. Cody Rhodes also didn’t wrestle at Survivor Series: WarGames this year, because he was concentrated on this match against Owens.

Only time will tell how long Cody Rhodes is able to keep his top spot in WWE. After all, he’s certainly worked hard to get here. Kevin Owens has scratched and clawed as well, and he’s not going to let Cody forget about that, either.
