WWE Hall of Famer RVD is a true student of the game and his in-ring skills truly set him apart from the rest. That’s precisely why he doesn’t appreciate wrestlers copying each other’s moves and has now called them out for the same.
While speaking on the 1 of a Kind podcast, RVD criticizes wrestlers for trying moves they aren’t good at and tells them to stick to what they know. He stated that many botched moves on social media happen because wrestlers try things outside their skill level. He advises that if they are not good at a move, they should not try those moves until they are ready. RVD points out that weak chair shots and mistakes happen when wrestlers try to copy others instead of sticking to their own style.
The Whole F’n Show believes wrestlers should stay within their abilities. For example, a 200-pound wrestler shouldn’t be doing powerbombs, and a 400-pound wrestler shouldn’t be taking big, risky bumps. RVD thinks that if wrestlers focus on learning the basics of wrestling, they won’t have time for dangerous moves.
“So, since you said that, I’m going to do the same right now and help everybody in the business by making a new rule that you must comply with. I’m using my leverage, the position I’ve earned in this industry, to make this rule that you all have to apply by, and it’s going to make the business better, it’s going to make it good again. And the rule is: you have to stay in your own f****** realm. I watch all these botched spots on Instagram, and nobody’s perfect, but there are so many, and the reason is, that’s why a lot of times I repost them. It’s because it’s people doing s*** that’s not in their realm.
And I’m making a rule right now that you have to abide by, okay? If you suck at something, don’t f****** do it. If you’re not good at a move, don’t do it until you’re good at it. So now when we see these things with the weak-ass little chair shots, and we see somebody cover, no-sell, no-selling big space, there’s no contact, this and that, it’s because everybody tries to do everybody else’s moves, and it’s stupid. So, if you weigh 200 pounds, you should not be doing power bombs and s***. If you weigh 400 pounds, you should not be taking a 360 bump when you get clotheslined.
Alright, people have their realms, and it should be just like in life. You learn the foundation of wrestling. If you spent enough time in wrestling school or at that beginning stage of your career, if you spent enough time learning the actual fundamentals of wrestling, you wouldn’t have time to be walking on the top rope and doing Hurricanranas and this and that. You wouldn’t have time for it. That’s the way I got trained.”
RVD also took aim at wrestlers who use injuries are proof that professional wrestling is “real” as he believes injuries simply do not mean wrestling is truly authentic. Nonetheless, the WWE Hall of Famer only wants what’s best for the wrestling industry, so it’s not hard to see why he wants wrestlers to stop copying each other’s moves. Therefore, we’ll have to see whether they will pay heed to RVD’s advice in the end.
