Roman Reigns isn’t one for wrestling traditions—especially when they involve hanging around after a grueling main event. The Tribal Chief opened up on the SI Media Podcast about why he didn’t stick around to talk with Cody Rhodes after losing the Undisputed WWE Universal Title to him at WrestleMania XL.
For Reigns, the post-match celebration was just too much. “If you want to sit out there and babyface for four hours, I ain’t waiting. Especially at that point,” he said bluntly. Cody Rhodes’ emotional celebration might have been the culmination of his “finish the story” journey, but for Reigns, it wasn’t worth the wait.
Even if Rhodes had wrapped things up faster, Reigns admitted he didn’t feel the need for a heart-to-heart. “What’s waiting? What kind of time are we talking about here? We have to keep it moving. I don’t live in Philly. There is some jet fuel to be burnt, and I had to go,” Reigns explained. “We know what we did. We were both out there. You can thank each other and all that old stuff. We put our bodies on the line together, and that’s thanks enough.”
The Tribal Chief’s pragmatic approach might not sit well with some fans, but it’s classic Reigns—focused, efficient, and unapologetically direct. With both stars moving on to the next chapter of their careers, this moment will go down as a defining end to an unforgettable match.
