Mr. Kennedy was once seen as a future star in WWE, with many believing he would become the next big name in the company. However, injuries and other issues led to his downfall and now he has addressed John Cena and Randy Orton’s alleged involvement in his WWE release.
While speaking on Ten Count Media, Mr. Kennedy addressed allegations regarding his role in incidents with John Cena and Randy Orton that allegedly led to his departure from WWE. When asked if Cena and Orton politicized and complained about him, he stated that he’s not sure if those claims are true, but it doesn’t really matter to him now. Instead of focusing on past issues, Kennedy chooses to move forward.
Kennedy admitted that he was partly to blame for being fired. Even if backstage politics played a role, he said his actions and decisions at the time didn’t help his situation. He acknowledged that WWE management, especially Vince McMahon, might have taken complaints about him seriously.
“To be honest with you, I have no idea. I—I—I don’t know if any of that’s true. It doesn’t really matter to me. Even if that was true, it’s just part of my history. I can either complain about it and whine about it, or I can just move forward.
Of course, ultimately, I am the one responsible for getting myself fired. Even if those guys did some behind-the-scenes talking or whatever, I was in enough of a situation where Vince would listen to that. If that was, in fact, the case—if that was the straw that broke the camel’s back—I still didn’t do myself any favors while I was there.
Looking on the bright side, Kennedy said his mistakes have become valuable lessons. As a trainer for up-and-coming wrestlers, he uses his experiences—both in the ring and behind the scenes—to teach them what not to do. While he knows most people learn best through their own experiences, he hopes some will listen to his advice and avoid making the same mistakes.
“I’ll tell you what, though. That’s one thing I can give to my students. I’ve been training people now for the last four or five years, and I’m able to take the mistakes I made in the ring and politically in the business and say, ‘Hey guys, don’t do this.’
I know it’s like every parent always says stuff like that to their kids, and the kids don’t listen—like, ‘Don’t touch the stove; it’s hot.’ And then the kid has to touch the stove because it’s hot. But maybe, just maybe, someone along the way will listen to me.”
Kennedy also regretted not arguing against WWE’s decision to give his Money In The Bank briefcase to Edge. Regardless, Mr. Kennedy has moved on from the situation and is focused on training the stars of tomorrow, but fans will remain hopeful there will come a time when he will make his return to WWE again.
