Big changes are on the horizon for WWE fans as SummerSlam is set to expand to two nights in 2025. This marks the first time a Premium Live Event outside of WrestleMania will adopt the two-night format, a move that WWE believes could redefine their biggest shows.
The announcement comes as part of WWE’s ongoing evolution of its PLE structure. Speaking at the UBS Global Media & Communications Conference, TKO CEO Mark Shapiro addressed the potential for more events to follow suit.
“Definitely opportunities for that. It’s all a progression, a natural evolution. WrestleMania was a big hit for us to expand,” Shapiro explained. “As you look at all these PLEs, depending on the partner, I think there is absolutely an opportunity to advance some of them to two days.”
Shapiro praised WWE’s current storytelling, citing the seamless weaving of narratives across Raw, SmackDown, Saturday Night’s Main Event, and PLEs. “We’re in a good place with our storylines… WrestleMania is the culmination, and then a new season begins,” he added. The expanded format allows WWE to highlight multiple storylines, elevate new talent, and bring back big names like CM Punk, John Cena, and The Rock.
While it’s unclear which other PLEs might make the jump to two nights, Shapiro’s comments suggest this is just the beginning. With Triple H and Lee Fitting driving WWE’s creative vision, the future looks bright for fans eager to experience even more action-packed events.
SummerSlam’s two-night expansion continues WWE’s commitment to delivering blockbuster entertainment. The big question now is: could events like Royal Rumble or Survivor Series follow the same path?
