Roman Reigns joined forces with The Rock at WrestleMania XL, delivering a memorable victory over Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one of WWE’s biggest event of the year. While fans initially expected the match to set the stage for a long-awaited clash between Reigns and his legendary cousin, plans reportedly shifted in February after Cody Rhodes’ momentum with the WWE Universe became undeniable.
The question of whether Roman and Rock will eventually collide in a one-on-one showdown remains up in the air, but for Reigns, the focus has always been on family. Speaking with Jimmy Traina on the SI Media podcast, Reigns shared his perspective on working with The Rock at such a monumental event.
“I never really looked at it like that,” Reigns said when asked about the magnitude of himself vs. Rock. “It was more so that situation where you zoom out and you see all these family members together. When you’re able to do that with someone from your family, with people from your Bloodline, there is just something about that.”
Reigns likened the experience to the bond shared by famous siblings in sports, such as the Kelce brothers or the Harbaugh brothers. “It’s this weird, sharing such a huge main event level moment with so many eyes on it… I wasn’t even looking at him like ‘this is DJ [Dwayne Johnson],’ it was just me and another family member. I mean that with the utmost love and respect,” he continued. “It’s really hard to put into words how that can make a man feel and how proud I am to be able to attempt to articulate this. We’re very fortunate.”
As for The Rock’s WWE future, his next appearance remains a mystery. Fans last saw him at WWE Bad Blood, where he made his presence felt in an intense staredown with Roman, Cody, and Jimmy Uso. Whether this leads to another epic match or more family-centered storytelling is something fans are eager to find out.
