Curtis Axel, a former Intercontinental Champion, had a successful run in WWE before being released in 2020 due to COVID-19 budget cuts. He returned in 2022 as a producer but left again shortly after and now he has revealed the reason for his 2022 stint ending so abruptly.
While speaking on Monte and The Pharaoh, Curtis Axel talked about returning to WWE in April 2022 as a producer and how he ended up returning to the company in the first place. Axel revealed that he was brought in by Jason Jordan, who was the head producer at WWE.
“Several people, maybe a couple, but yeah, when I did that, it was interesting. I think I got brought in by Jason Jordan—the head producer.”
Axel was then asked about his subsequent release just three months later. He said his departure coincided with hush money allegations against John Laurinaitis and Vince McMahon.
Axel revealed that when the allegations surfaced, he was only working in WWE in a part-time role. He stated that he was told WWE couldn’t afford to keep him on and was advised to stay home, with the situation never being revisited.
“I didn’t part. The allegations with Vince and Johnny happened, so I was only part-time at the time. They said to me, ‘Hey, we can’t afford, just chill back home,’ and it just never got brought back up.”
Curtis Axel hasn’t necessarily been involved in the pro wrestling world much since his WWE departure but he still keeps up-to-date with the current product. Only time will tell if Axel will ever make his return to WWE, as anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling.
