The Nexus was one of the most dominant groups in WWE when they debuted in 2010, but they never reached their full potential after a lot of creative mishandling and bad booking. Heath Slater was one of the original members of the faction, and he is now pushing for WWE to bring back The Nexus once and for all.
While speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, Heath Slater was asked about his feelings about the Nexus’ debut during the June 7, 2010 edition of RAW, where they all systematically destroyed John Cena. Slate explained that Nexus helped build NXT and was a huge moment in his career.
From the beginning, they made a big impact by going straight after the top stars in WWE. Slater noted that their style of dominating and destroying everything around them was something fans hadn’t seen before.
“That was my start, you know. Yes, we were on NXT, we were the foundation of NXT, of what you see today. But it’s one of those things where, like, when you know you’re going after the head dogs, like, you’re going right for them first thing. You know, you do it to shock the world of wrestling, you know what I mean? It’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘Holy crap, what’s happening?’ And certainly, the way we did it, surrounding it, dominating, tearing up everything, destroying everything, it was one of those things that you didn’t see before.”
Slater admitted that he is surprised that even though Nexus was only together for about eight or nine months, people still remember them 14 years later. He said that they have grown up since then, and it’s time for WWE, especially Triple H, to think about bringing them back.
Heath Slater believes that a Nexus reunion, with them as experienced wrestlers now, would be an exciting and powerful moment for wrestling fans. He also added that he definitely sees a return happening one day.
“And what really blows my mind about Nexus is that we were together for what, eight, nine months? Yeah, and people still talk about it 14 years later, you know what I mean? Come on, man. Listen, WWE, Hunter, think about it, baby. We’re not boys anymore, we’re men. Imagine if we came back. Imagine, just imagine. I can see it. I can definitely see it.”
Many people felt John Cena buried The Nexus back at SummerSlam 2010, which led to the downfall of the faction. Nonetheless, only time will tell whether WWE will pay heed to what Slater had to say and decide to bring back The Nexus after so many years, as fans would love to see them back for another run.
