Could Shelton Benjamin be stepping into the intense, no-ropes world of Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport? According to Barnett himself, the possibility is on the table, and he’s eager to make it happen.
During a recent appearance on the Shining Wizards Podcast, Barnett revealed that he’s been in communication with Benjamin about a potential match at a future Bloodsport event. “Would love to see it. I have been in communication with him. Don’t know if it’s gonna happen. But you never know,” Barnett shared.
Barnett also discussed their shared connections, not only through MVP and Bobby Lashley of The Hurt Syndicate but also through their ties to Minnesota wrestling. “Plus, me and Shelton have a connection, not only through Bobby and MVP but also through Minnesota wrestling. I’ve got some guys from the Minnesota Storm [who] wrestled for the University of Minnesota that have trained with me and gone and competed in catch wrestling over in England. I’ve brought it up to Shelton, and he’s like, ‘What? Really? You got these guys going out there? That’s cool, man.’”
While no official plans have been confirmed, Benjamin’s amateur wrestling background and hard-hitting style would make him a perfect fit for the Bloodsport format. The unique event, which combines elements of MMA and pro wrestling, has previously featured stars from WWE, AEW, and TNA, with competitors delivering brutal, no-ropes action that focuses on pure grappling and striking.
Whether or not Shelton Benjamin makes his way to Bloodsport, the prospect has already sparked excitement among fans eager to see him in a new, hard-hitting environment.
