The New Day were one of WWE’s most popular acts for a decade and fans were convinced they were never going to split up. That all changed on the December 2nd episode of Monday Night RAW as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods kicked out Big E for good and now the original plans for The New Day’s heel turn have been revealed.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan for The New Day’s heel turn was for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to align with Odyssey Jones.
The idea was to create tension between them at first, but eventually, Kingston and Woods would turn heel by choosing Jones to publicly replace Big E. However, those plans were put on hold when Odyssey Jones was fired, leading to the storyline being abandoned.
“We were told this had been planned for months. When Odyssey Jones came in, they were going to tease issues with them not getting along but it would end up with Kingston & Woods going heel by choosing Jones and having him publicly replace E. But then Jones got fired and the whole thing was put on hold.”
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were absolutely merciless towards Big E and they completely shut him out and made light of his neck injury. Kingston would then double down on everything he and Woods said to Big E and make it clear nothing that they said was wrong.
While it’s certainly a shame that WWE couldn’t go through with their original plans for The New Day’s heel turn, their current direction looks to be equally as compelling, if not more. Therefore, fans are waiting to see how the story will pan out as Big E will certainly have a huge role to play heading into 2025.
