Logan Paul may be new to wrestling, but he’s already famous in pop culture thanks to his success outside of wrestling. Even with all his achievements, he knows there’s a lot for him to learn. In fact, he recently revealed that John Cena gave him some helpful advice through a text message.

While speaking on the Impaulsive podcast, Logan Paul stated that Jake Paul has always believed in a few things that Logan is now starting to see pay off. One of Jake Paul’s key ideas is “Hard work beats talent.”

Logan Paul didn’t agree with this when he was younger. He used to think that if you were naturally good at something, like singing, that was enough—he didn’t see the need for extra work. However, Logan Paul now understands that Jake was right and that talent alone isn’t enough, and hard work is important for real success.

Jake’s got a few things that he lives by and has kind of always tried to live by that I am now seeing the payoff of. One of which he would always say, ‘Hard work beats talent.’ In our early 20s, I just didn’t agree. I was like, ‘Dude, if you’re a singer… yo, I’m sorry, but if you’re a good singer, like, God blessed you. Just go sing, go shut up, and go make music. Shut up and dribble.’ Yeah, like—not even because basketball, you have to work really hard, but if you just sound good when you sing, like, f*** you, bro, f*** you. I don’t know. Unless you also work… there’s got to be a ton of background work that goes…

Logan also mentioned that John Cena once messaged him and told him “Comparison is the thief of joy.” At first, Logan Paul didn’t really understand that, but now it makes sense to him. He has noticed that, even though he compares himself to others to stay competitive, it might actually take away his happiness.

The Maverick wonders if he’s reaching these high points in life because he’s truly happy, or if it’s just because he’s motivated by what others are doing. He questions whether it matters where the motivation comes from and what sparked it but acknowledges how John Cena helped him.

Well, well, that’s why, ’cause it turns out hard work does beat… you have to have both if you really want to make it. I used to— that was my old headspace. Now I’m like, Jake is right. Another thing that he’s lived by, and actually John Cena told me as well randomly—I shot him a text on something—and he told me this: ‘Comparison is the thief of joy.

But I’ve never really understood it, and now, I’m like, I still don’t think I fully understand it, but it makes sense to me. ‘Cause I’m realizing something about myself. And that is, I do compare myself to people in the sense that I’m competitive, and I use it as fuel to motivate me to do better, which has always worked for me. But I’m also wondering if maybe it is like the thief of joy. ‘Cause while I am reaching these pinnacles, am I like happy doing it? Am I doing this ‘cause I found that motivation inside me, or did it come from an external source? Yeah, also, does it matter? Like, I don’t know… like, what’s the catalyst, the inception moment? Yeah, like, I don’t know. But he definitely helped me.”

As for Logan Paul’s WWE future, he is currently interested in feuding with Jacob Fatu once he returns to the company. No matter what, Paul will forever be grateful to John Cena for helping him become a better person and understanding himself more and that’s all that matters in the end.
