Tony Khan is open to working with any promotion but AEW’s partnership with GCW became uncertain after a recent controversy. Even then, Matt Cardona is now set to compete at ROH Final Battle and GCW Owner Brett Lauderdale has now addressed the same.
Sean Ross Sapp took to Twitter and revealed a statement from Brett Lauderdale, where he talked about Matt Cardona competing at ROH Final Battle on December 20th, especially with the tension between GCW and AEW. Lauderdale said he is excited for Matt Cardona and the fans, and that it will be a fun atmosphere at The Hammerstein Ballroom for AEW. He also mentioned that things might get more interesting for GCW’s return to the venue on January 19, seemingly hinting at future collaborations.
“I’m Excited for Matt and excited for the fans. It will be a fun atmosphere at The Hammerstein Ballroom for AEW and I think things may have just gotten a little more interesting for GCW’s return to The Hammerstein Ballroom on January 19th…”
Matt Cardona made his ROH debut during the December 4th taping of ROH television, where it was revealed that The Indy God will challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Title at Final Battle 2024. This is certainly a big deal for Matt Cardona, who is looking to end Chris Jericho’s reign as ROH World Champion once and for all.
This comes after Ricky Starks was removed from future GCW bookings after GCW star Effy made remarks about Tony Khan’s father Shad Khan, which made fans believe AEW would never work with GCW again, so this was certainly a pleasant surprise.
We’ll have to wait and see if Matt Cardona facing off Chris Jericho on ROH television will lead to a strong partnership with GCW. After all, Brett Lauderdale’s comments make fans think it might happen.
