CM Punk and WWE were at odds for a very long time as the company’s doctor Chris Amann took him and Colt Cabana to court. This was a very tense time for Punk, and he wanted to have a strong alliance against the company. This also led to a big falling out with Colt Cabana.
The friendship of CM Punk and Colt Cabana went back years. It was on Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast that Punk dropped all of those bombshells against WWE and Amann, ones that caused a long and expensive lawsuit. Cabana has gone on to apologize for portions of what Punk said.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that he thought about on CM Punk shaking hands with Sami Zayn in the ring at WWE Survivor Series after WarGames. Punk went on to shake Zayn’s hand during the December 2 WWE RAW. There was a lot of story behind that, and Colt Cabana is in the center of things.
It was stated that the falling out between CM Punk and Colt Cabana actually started when Colt went out to dinner with the two WWE Superstars. They are real-life friends, but Punk didn’t want to see that kind of friendliness with WWE at that time.
“If Punk hadn’t gotten so mad at [Colt] Cabana for going out to pizza with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, the entire wrestling business would be different today. I don’t know what it would be, but it would be different.”
It was then suggested the falling out between Punk and Cabana started over Boom Boom’s dinner outing with Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. This fallout went down during CM Punk’s long hiatus from the ring. He had been out of wrestling for years at that point, and the heated legal battle with Chris Amann had already cost him a lot of time and money. He was also footing the legal bill for Cabana prior to their falling out. Then Punk and Cabana ended up suing each other.
Colt Cabana would also take shots during CM Punk’s infamous blow-up at All Out, right before he brawled with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega backstage. It turns out that all of this might have stemmed from a simple dinner between friends that Punk took the wrong way so many years ago.
CM Punk is now back in WWE, so he is in much better terms with the company and the roster. That doesn’t change his relationship with Colt Cabana, as the two are still apparently at odds.
