The pro wrestling world was taken aback when Samantha Irvin ended up leaving WWE back in October and her departure remains a topic of discussion even now. Many have blamed Ricochet for her departure and now Ricochet has admitted him leaving WWE had a role to play in her exit.

While speaking on Barstool Rasslin, Ricochet addressed people who blame him for Samantha Irvin’s departure. Ricochet explained that Irvin simply didn’t enjoy being a ring announcer and felt she wasn’t getting the chances she wanted. She realized she was meant to be an actress, singer, and performer, not just known for that one job.

Ricochet pointed out that she left after only four years, which was different from other people who stayed for many years. Fans were surprised and thought he convinced her to leave because he did, but Ricochet said that wasn’t the case. She just didn’t enjoy that job anymore, though he admits his leaving might have been the last thing that pushed her to make the decision.

“Apparently, I convinced her. I convinced her to leave her dream job just to be with me and stay at home. But no, she actually said she didn’t really enjoy that specific job and knew she wasn’t going to get the opportunities she really wanted. So, she decided to step away because she felt like she was born to be an actress, a singer, and a character—not just a ring announcer. Her identity had become that, and that’s when she realized, ‘I like playing that role; it’s a great role within the company, but I want to evoke more emotion in people in other ways.’

She kind of broke tradition. I said, ‘Look at Lillian, look at Rome, look at all the guys—they were there for 20 years each. You were there for four years, really got everyone involved, and then said, ‘I’m out.’ People were like, ‘Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. That’s not how it works. You’re supposed to be here for 20 years! What are you talking about? You’re not supposed to leave right now. What happened? Ricochet must have convinced you to leave because he left.’

Ricochet acknowledged that while his WWE exit wasn’t the main reason for her decision, it was one of the factors that contributed to it, stating that it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. He noted that Samantha had already been considering stepping away before his departure, possibly since last year’s WrestleMania, but his leaving made her decision feel more imminent.

“I will say, though, I do think me leaving was kind of like the straw that broke the camel’s back. It wasn’t the deciding factor, but I think it added to a couple of things she’d been thinking about. She was already considering it, maybe since last year’s WrestleMania. She was like, ‘This is the pinnacle, I’m done.’ So, I think that’s when she started thinking about it more seriously. But I do think me leaving was another factor in the pile. It wasn’t the main reason, but I don’t think it helped.”

Ricochet also addressed Samantha Irvin’s future in pro wrestling, making it clear that she isn’t interested in returning to the business at the moment. Regardless, Irvin is more than happy with her decision to leave WWE and is already flourishing in other avenues, so we’ll have to see if she will become a big star somewhere down the line.
