Former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree is taking a courageous step forward in his battle with substance abuse.
In an emotional video posted on his Cafe de Rene YouTube channel, Dupree admitted to being inebriated during a recent stream, attributing his condition to mixing alcohol with benzodiazepines—a medication prescribed for the anxiety he’s experienced since the passing of his father.
“First and foremost, I’d like to apologize to everyone for my condition last night during the return of Cafe de Rene,” Dupree said as he addressed his fans and supporters.
He explained that a meeting about upgrading his show’s production led to some celebratory drinks, which took a dangerous turn due to his medication. “For anybody that knows, mixing alcohol with benzos is a very bad thing to do. Thus resulting in my inebriated state last night…I want to apologize to everybody. I want to apologize to Ted Hart, I just want to thank everybody for the support,” he shared.
Dupree expressed gratitude for the outpouring of concern he received from fellow wrestlers, adding that their calls made him realize how much people care about his well-being.
“The power of addiction is cunning, baffling, and powerful,” he reflected. “When you think you have it under control, that’s when you should be worrying the most. Once you have that disease and addiction and it has a hold of you, it won’t let go.”
Determined to turn his life around, Dupree announced he’s resuming Narcotics Anonymous meetings and committed to working through this difficult time. “I’m gonna persevere, it’s just a bump in the road. Thank you guys so much. I apologize again from the bottom of my heart for my behavior and unprofessionalism last night,” he said in closing.
Dupree’s honesty about his struggles and his commitment to recovery have struck a chord with fans and colleagues alike. As he navigates this challenging journey, his candidness serves as a reminder of the power of vulnerability and the importance of seeking help.
