AEW fans expecting a heated feud between Christian Cage and Hook will have to wait, as plans for the storyline have been put on hold.
According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Cage’s direction shifted following the chaotic post-match angles at AEW Full Gear, where he was thrust into the AEW World Title picture.
“Yeah, it’s been put on hold for right now because Christian is going towards—at least he was planned on going for a feud with the top title,” Sapp explained, shedding light on the decision to pivot Cage’s storyline.
At Full Gear, Cage inserted himself into the main event scene in dramatic fashion. After Jon Moxley retained the AEW World Title against Orange Cassidy, Cage hit Moxley with the Killswitch and was handed a contract for a title match by “Hangman” Adam Page. The sequence set the stage for Cage to become a major player in the World Championship hunt, alongside other top contenders like Jay White, Page, and Darby Allin.
While Cage’s confrontation with Hook had been building momentum, AEW’s decision to prioritize him in the title picture highlights the company’s long-term storytelling approach. The intense Full Gear fallout showcased AEW’s commitment to keeping the World Championship scene unpredictable and stacked with potential challengers.
Fans will now have to wait to see when—or if—the Cage vs. Hook storyline resumes, as Cage’s quest for gold takes center stage. In the meantime, AEW has successfully set up a main event landscape brimming with tension and opportunities for surprises.
