The Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada played host for Survivor Series 2024, and fans were more than ready for the show. Although the card only had five announced matches, each one of them had importance, especially GUNTHER’s World Heavyweight Championship defense.
This match was back-and-forth, with both men gaining an advantage at time. Fans were very much behind Priest for the title match, but GUNTHER kept fighting back. As they continued in the match, neither one could get a full advantage.
As they rounded to the finish, Damian Priest selling his injury prohibited him from nailing a South of Heaven multiple times. GUNTHER got on a kimora and locked it in before Damian Priest made it to the bottom rope to break up the hold. GUNTHER started to work slow as he hit two clotheslines, but Priest countered and nailed him to stop a third. Then they made their way to the top rope, and GUNTHER took a bump off the top rope while Priest went toppling over the top rope. Finn Balor ran in through the crowd and nailed a Coup De Gras on Priest.
GUNTHER nailed Balor, but then he got in the ring and hit a powerbomb before latching on a chokehold on Priest to win the match. This was quite a defense for the Ring General.
This match was the second to last of the night, and it came right after Bron Breakker retained his Intercontinental Title against Ludwig Kaiser and Sheamus in a triple threat match. Then it was GUNTHER’s turn to take the stage against Damian Priest and WWE ring announcer Alicia Taylor gave it a big match feel with their introductions.
Damian Priest was looking to regain the championship that he won at WrestleMania 40 as he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre, who had a very short reign at Mania after beating Seth Rollins.
At SummerSlam 2024, GUNTHER defeated Damian Priest to win the World Heavyweight Championship. This came as a result of the Ring General winning the 2024 King of the Ring tournament. After GUNTHER won the World Title, he promised Priest an eventual rematch, but he had to focus on the 2024 Crown Jewel Championship match, which he lost to Cody Rhodes. Finally, on the November 4 episode of RAW, Priest won a fatal four-way match to secure a rematch for the title.
