AEW has been missing a key figure on and off-screen with the loss of Kenny Omega. The Executive Vice President’s medical issues took precedent, and while fans were waiting for a possible AEW Full Gear 2024 return, that wasn’t in the cards.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that,
“Omega wants to take it slow before going back full-time, with the idea of easing into a full-time schedule down the line and hoping everything holds up.”

Prior to Kenny Omega’s diverticulitis hiatus in December 2023, things were looking good for the former AEW World Champion. Omega inked a new multi-year deal with AEW a few months beforehand, and he was scheduled to team up with Chris Jericho to compete for the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

At one point during the height of his illness, Kenny Omega’s medical crisis was given a reported 50% chance of death. So, The Cleaner doesn’t want to rush things at this stage in the game.

Kenny Omega confirmed in September that he was not medically cleared for a return to the ring. That left a lot of unanswered questions, primarily how far along in his rehabilitation process The Cleaner was regarding a light at the end of the tunnel.

It as previously noted that Kenny Omega’s imminent return wouldn’t be a surprise, even at Full Gear 2024. However, that wasn’t in the cards. Omega is slated to take on Gabe Kidd at NJPW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5, 2025. So, his in-ring return is expected, but it’s unknown if AEW fans will see him back by the end of the year.
