Adam Copeland might be stepping back into the AEW ring sooner than expected.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Copeland’s return could take place on January 1, 2025, during AEW’s first MAX/TBS simulcast, marking a new era for the promotion. The event, scheduled for Asheville, North Carolina—Copeland’s hometown—could set the stage for his comeback after a brutal injury earlier this year.
“They are heavily pushing 1/1 in Asheville as the first MAX/TBS simulcast as the start of the new era,” Meltzer shared. “Given it’s in Asheville, it would make sense for it to be Adam Copeland’s return.”
Copeland has been out of action since May, following a devastating leg injury during a steel cage match at Double or Nothing against Malakai Black. Known for his fearless high-risk moves, the former TNT Champion leapt from the top of the cage in an attempt to smash through a table, only to land awkwardly and break his leg.
Despite being medically cleared to wrestle, Copeland’s schedule is packed. It was previously reported he’s currently filming the second season of Disney+’s Percy Jackson through January, which could limit his ability to make an in-ring appearance. However, since the event is in Asheville and falls on a Wednesday, Meltzer noted, “It would make sense if he doesn’t have filming.”
Copeland himself is itching to return to the ring. During a Thanksgiving interview with The Leafs Nation, he reflected on his injury with humor and determination. “My brain forgets I’m 51, but my body quickly reminded me. Yeah, you just jumped from 21 feet, asshole. That’s technically three stories. You’re 51, quit it,” he joked. “But I feel good. I’m ready to get back at it and to get busy again.”
With speculation surrounding his return heating up, fans are counting down to January 1 to see if Copeland will make his triumphant comeback in front of his hometown crowd.
