Ricochet has been part of the AEW family for a few months, and fans are often amazed by his high-flying, exciting in-ring style. However, not everyone is a fan of his approach, and Ricochet has admitted that he doesn’t understand why some people don’t like his wrestling style.

While speaking on Q101, Ricochet admitted that does not understand why people criticize his wrestling style. He focuses on precision and awareness, inspired by Dragon Gate. He looks at things like accuracy, clean execution, proper footing, spacing, timing, and how natural everything looks in the ring. Ricochet enjoys exciting high-flying moves and believes more can be more if it looks good and makes sense.

“When I watch wrestling, I focus on things like ring awareness and precision—more like a Dragon Gate style. Is it accurate? Is it clean? What’s your footing like? How’s the spacing and timing? Does it all look natural? Those are the things I look for. Don’t get me wrong, I love crazy spots. I love spots, period. I love Dragon Gate, of course. People say, ‘Less is more,’ but I think more is always more—it just has to look cool and make sense. If it doesn’t look good, then it’s a problem.”

Ricochet agrees that sometimes less is more, but that doesn’t mean his style is wrong. He respects other styles and knows they work because legends have proven their success. However, he simply doesn’t understand when people dislike a style so much, they feel the need to speak out against it and get emotional. He notes that respected wrestlers like AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, or Chris Jericho don’t criticize others for doing too much in the ring.

“Obviously, there are times when less does equal more. I’m not denying that. And just because I love this style doesn’t mean I think others are wrong. Those other styles work for a reason—there are legends who’ve done them for decades.

Because they’re legends for a reason. But it’s just crazy to me that just because some people don’t like a specific style, it makes you feel so emotional that you have to say something. It’s not like AJ Styles is out there saying, ‘Hey, you’re doing too much.’ You’re not going to hear that from Rey Mysterio, Jushin Thunder Liger, or Chris Jericho, either.

For Ricochet, professional wrestling is about doing what he loves, and even after 21 years, his style continues to evolve. However, at its core, it’s still the kind of wrestling he enjoys most.

“At the end of the day, I love this style. And after 21 years of doing my thing, my style evolves and changes, but at its core, it’s still what I love to do.”

Ricochet also aims to create art with his style of professional wrestling. At the end of the day, Ricochet is a perfectionist and he is welcome to all styles of wrestling but he simply prefers his high-flying style and many fans feel he has every right to wrestle the way he wants to.
