Wrestling legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts is pulling back the curtain on what really went down during the final chapter of his WWE run.

Known for his innovative promos and unparalleled charisma, Roberts returned to WWE in 1996, but his tenure as both an in-ring competitor and backstage worker came to an abrupt end in 1997. On a recent episode of his The Snake Pit podcast, Roberts candidly shared the frustrations that ultimately drove him away from Vince McMahon’s empire.

“I just got frustrated with the bullsh*t,” Roberts admitted, reflecting on the creative process during his time in WWE. “I was just over the top frustrated [with] creative. Not given the opportunity to do what I was asked to do. They tell you they want you to do something, then you do it, and where the fuck do you go now? You’ve already put it out there, and they’re doing it, but oh well.”

Roberts also recalled McMahon’s notorious late-night calls filled with sudden ideas and confirmed reports of McMahon shredding scripts in a fit of creative overhaul. When asked if he ever confronted the WWE Chairman about such behavior, Roberts made it clear he opted to walk away instead. “It’s just, ‘Fuck it, I’m out.’ You can’t talk to somebody like that, man,” he said.
