Adam Copeland has been cleared for physicality after months of recovery from a tibia fracture suffered during his intense barbed wire steel cage match against Malakai Black at AEW’s Double or Nothing this past May. However, fans eager to see him back in the ring will have to wait a little longer, as Copeland is juggling another major project.

PWInsider Elite reports that while Copeland is now physically cleared for in-ring activity, his full-time return to AEW is on hold until he wraps filming for the second season of Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Hollywood sources indicate production is expected to conclude in January.

Copeland’s injury—a lower tibia fracture requiring surgery and a metal plate—marked a major setback during what had been a triumphant AEW run. He was stripped of the TNT Championship just days after the injury, ending his 70-day reign. In recent interviews, Copeland provided updates on his recovery, noting significant progress but also acknowledging the lingering effects of the injury.

“I was able to get in the ring and kind of roll around a little bit just to see where it’s at,” Copeland said in an interview. “It feels good, you know, it still doesn’t have the full strength back yet. The explosion isn’t there, the full mobility isn’t back yet, but it is in the right direction.”

Despite being cleared, Copeland has stated that his approach to wrestling will likely evolve, avoiding risky spots like the cage dive that led to his injury. For now, fans will have to wait to see how AEW integrates the legendary superstar back into its storylines once he’s fully available.
