Dustin Rhodes has accomplished a lot in his long and illustrious career, winning titles in numerous promotions. However, a World Title continues to elude him and Rhodes has now made it clear he wants to win a World Championship before retiring.
The Natural has been wrestling for almost 40 years and has won many championships in promotions like WCW, WWE/WWF, and now ROH. Currently, he holds two ROH titles: the ROH World Tag Team Championship with Sammy Guevara and the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship with the Von Erichs.
While speaking with WFAA 8, Dustin Rhodes stated that winning the World Heavyweight Title is a dream every wrestler should have. At 55 years old, he’s proud of his current achievements as a double champion but believes he still has more to accomplish.
Inspired by Sting, who wrestled into his 60s, Rhodes feels he has time to chase his goal. Rhodes remains determined to keep improving and hopes to finally win a World Heavyweight Title before his career ends.
“There’s one thing that every wrestler, if they don’t want this when they get into the business, they don’t belong on the business and that’s to become world heavyweight champion. That is the one thing that is missing. I’ve won many titles from both companies and all kinds of companies across the world, but winning the world heavyweight title puts a feather in your cap. I’m 55. Is it too late? I don’t think so. I have two belts right now, Dustin two belts, here I am, the ROH Tag Team Titles and the world six man tag team titles. It happened this year at 55 and I’m just like, wow.
The sky is the limit. When you get in the wrestling industry, that should be your number one goal. Of course you’re gonna make a lot of money with that, you’re gonna make a lot of money period anyways getting into the wrestling industry and it’s great. You take care of your family, you don’t have to worry about things man, but it’s an ever evolving business and you gotta be able to change on the fly and continue your rise of wherever you’re going and have that end goal. I don’t see an end in sight for me just quite yet. Sting was a big inspiration for that because I was a huge fan of his when he was there, when I met him the first time, I started painting my face because of Sting. To watch him go until he was 60 or 62 years old was amazing and it was very inspirational. It gives me some hope that I can still go a little bit longer.”
Dustin Rhodes is currently in negotiations with AEW regarding a new contract, but he clearly has big career goals in mind. That’s why fans now want to see The Natural finally win a World Title for the first time in his career, as it would finally end his decades-long quest.
