Adam Cole Addresses Mixed Reactions to Restarting MJF Storyline

Adam Cole is ready to finish what he started with MJF. After an injury sidelined him during one of AEW’s hottest feuds, Cole is jumping back into the storyline that had fans buzzing in 2023, confident it’s the right move—even if some critics aren’t sold.

In case you missed it, Cole’s broken ankle at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam temporarily derailed his storyline with MJF. The shocking reveal of Cole as The Devil at AEW Worlds End left fans reeling, but his absence left questions hanging in the air. MJF was also out of action until his dramatic return at AEW Double or Nothing, where he attacked Cole. After months on the sidelines, Cole made his triumphant return at AEW WrestleDream, confronting MJF and reigniting their feud.

Speaking to The Danny Ocean Show, Cole opened up about jumping back into the storyline despite mixed reactions from fans. “Truth be told, when you look back at that six months that me and MJF had and the chemistry that we had, in a lot of ways, we kind of caught lightning in a bottle,” Cole said. He noted that their feud main-eventing All In was a major milestone, making the injury even more frustrating.

Cole emphasized the importance of giving the story a proper ending. “I just feel that the story that me and MJF told needs a definitive conclusion,” he explained. “Coming back from injury, that’s exactly what I’m hopping into. Of course, you want to make as many people happy as possible. Then sometimes too with stories, it takes a little bit to get back to where you were because a lot of the stuff that we did was very slow-burn.”

Despite some fan skepticism, Cole is optimistic about where the feud is heading. “I’m confident in what we’re gonna bring to the table, I’m confident in what we’re gonna do, and I do think that us continuing this story with me coming back from injury was the right call,” Cole concluded.

This slow-burn storytelling between Cole and MJF has been one of AEW’s most compelling narratives, and Cole seems determined to give fans the payoff they deserve.
