Despite being the son of WWE Hall of Famer Stan Stasiak, Shawn Stasiak’s wrestling career never quite hit the heights many expected. While Kurt Angle once claimed Stasiak lacked confidence, Bully Ray has now shared another bombshell explanation for why the second-generation star struggled—he broke a sacred backstage code.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully revealed that Stasiak used to ride from town to town with WWE veterans Steve Blackman and Davey Boy Smith. The two legends would sit in the front, sharing stories, as wrestlers often do on the road. But while such car conversations are meant to stay private, Stasiak had other plans.

In an unbelievable breach of trust, Stasiak was caught secretly recording Blackman and Smith’s conversations. When confronted, he said he planned to use their stories as inspiration for his promos. The revelation left Blackman and Smith furious, and they wasted no time spreading the word to other veterans.

Bully recalled the moment Ron Simmons stepped in. “Ron Simmons chewed out Stasiak like I have never seen in my life in the wrestling business. Basically, Ron said, ‘What the hell were you thinking? Why would you do this? Don’t ever do this again.’”

But the punishment didn’t end there. After that night’s show, Bully, D-Von Dudley, and Al Snow were driving to the next town when they spotted Stasiak walking alone on the side of the highway. Snow quickly figured out what had happened—Blackman and Smith had kicked Stasiak out of their car halfway through the trip as payback for his betrayal.

“That’s what went on in the business if you did wrong,” Bully explained. “That’s how you get educated. That’s how you learn, sometimes, in the wrestling business.”

The incident became infamous backstage and is still a cautionary tale about respecting the unwritten rules of the wrestling world.

Shawn Stasiak’s backstage blunder is a story that highlights just how serious trust and respect are in the wrestling world. While his intentions might not have been malicious, the fallout from his secret recordings clearly left a lasting impact on his career and reputation. Whether you see it as a harsh lesson or a cautionary tale, one thing’s for sure—wrestling’s unwritten rules are no joke.
