CM Punk’s time in AEW had its ups and downs, with several controversies overshadowing his run, including the infamous All Out 2022 incident. Addressing his previous comments about the situation, Matt Hardy has now clarified rumors about any personal issues he might have had with Punk.
CM Punk made headlines during his controversial AEW All Out 2022 press conference, where he publicly criticized The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and Colt Cabana and it led to a brawl backstage, as the incident is now dubbed as “Brawl Out.”
While speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy talked about teaming with CM Punk at Survivor Series 2006 and stated he has no personal issues with the Second City Saint.
Hardy admitted that some people think he doesn’t like Punk because of his comments about the All Out situation. He explained that while he respects Punk, he feels Punk was wrong for calling out The Elite and Adam Page, which led to problems. Even with that disagreement, Hardy made it clear he appreciates Punk’s talent and unique presence in wrestling.
“I don’t have any issues with Punk. I think Punk is extremely talented. I think he’s great. The only thing I said, which people will hold over my head like, ‘Oh my God, he doesn’t like CM Punk,’ was that I think he was wrong in the All Out deal where he called out The Elite and Adam Page and everything else. I just think he was in the wrong there and kind of started that problem.
I don’t have issues with Punk. I think Punk is talented as s***. He’s very special—he truly is one of a kind, especially in the way he connects with people.”
With that said, CM Punk wasn’t a fan of AEW airing the All In backstage footage earlier this year as he really doesn’t want to have anything to do with AEW anymore. Nevertheless, fans are glad that Matt Hardy has no issues with The Second City Saint and they couldn’t have asked for anything else.
