Adam Cole’s ankle injury at AEW Grand Slam last year greatly affected his wrestling career. The injury included fractures in three parts of his ankle, which led to him being sidelined for a long time. While he is back now, Cole admitted that the injury also had a big impact on him mentally.

Adam Cole would then make his unexpected return during the WrestleDream pay-per-view last month and has been a staple of AEW television ever since. Even then, it has been a long and difficult road for Cole.

While speaking to Adrian Hernandez, Adam Cole talked about how tough it was mentally after he injured his ankle. He stated that while his concussion was really scary and there were concerns about whether he could return, he got the okay from doctors and was able to come back. However, when he hurt his ankle, he never thought about retiring because he knew he could recover.

Adam Cole also admitted that he was more discouraged by the ankle injury than the concussion and that his mental discouragement was at an all-time high. Coming back from the concussion, only to get hurt again, felt “soul-crushing” to him.

“So the concussion was genuinely scary, where there was a real question of whether I was going to be able to come back. Fortunately, I got the clearance from doctors that it was completely safe and fine, and I was able to return. When this issue with the ankle happened, there was never a point where I felt like, ‘Okay, I’m going to retire,’ because I knew this was something I could come back from. As far as mental discouragement, it was at an all-time high. I think I was more discouraged about the ankle than I was even about the concussions. The concussions were just worrisome at that point, but coming back from that injury for six months and then having this happen was absolutely soul-crushing.”

Despite everything, Adam Cole stated he never thought about quitting wrestling. He’s not ready to end his career and believes he still has a lot left to give. He was always confident he would come back.

“But to answer your question, no, there was never a point where I thought, ‘Okay, maybe I should stop wrestling.’ I’m nowhere near ready to accept the fact that my career is over, and I think I have a lot of my career left to give. So yeah, I was always confident I was going to come back.”

As for Adam Cole’s current run in AEW, he made it clear he will get his hands on MJF in the future following his Full Gear setback. Cole’s future is clearly bright as the company wants to establish him as a top star again, so fans are excited to see what’s next for him.
