Tony Khan is shedding light on AEW’s scheduling plans, particularly the approach to taping Collision and Dynamite.
During the media call for AEW Full Gear, Khan addressed the exception made during the Australia tour, which saw both shows taped on the same night. While this was a rare occurrence, Khan emphasized his commitment to keeping Collision a standalone event whenever possible.
Speaking to Dave Meltzer, Khan clarified that the decision to tape both shows together was made due to the unique circumstances of the tour. “Taping Dynamite and Collision on the same night is a rare occurrence,” Khan stated, making it clear that this format isn’t the norm for AEW programming.
Khan highlighted that taping Collision separately, usually on Thursdays, allows the show to maintain its identity and gives AEW’s production team and talent a better workflow. The company recently shifted to pre-taping Collision to reduce travel demands on talent, a move that has been well-received backstage.
This approach not only streamlines production but also prioritizes the well-being of AEW’s roster, enabling them to tackle two shows in a single trip instead of enduring additional travel. However, Khan reiterated that, despite the logistical benefits of taping two shows on one night, AEW prefers to keep Collision as an independent event whenever possible.
AEW’s balancing act between accommodating talent schedules and maintaining the integrity of their shows reflects their commitment to both fans and performers. As Collision evolves, Khan’s strategy demonstrates his focus on sustainability and quality programming.
