Nic Nemeth, famously known as Dolph Ziggler in WWE, delivered one of the most electrifying moments in WWE history with his Money in the Bank cash-in on April 8, 2013. Now, thanks to a recent revelation, we’ve learned that the original plan was to make that epic moment happen on an even bigger stage—WrestleMania 29.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Ricardo Rodriguez, who was heavily involved in the storyline as Alberto Del Rio’s announcer, revealed that WWE initially planned for Ziggler’s cash-in to happen at WrestleMania 29. However, the creative team opted to move the moment to the next night on Monday Night Raw, a decision Rodriguez believes made it even more impactful.

“In retrospect, I’m glad they did [move it], just because I think it was a little unexpected,” Rodriguez said. “The eruption of that arena was so incredible.”

Rodriguez described the magic of the cash-in match itself, noting how the crowd was completely engaged during the back-and-forth action. After a near-fall from Ziggler’s Famouser, Alberto Del Rio countered with an enziguri and locked in his signature armbar.

Fans, already emotionally invested after Ziggler’s years of being “screwed over,” were on the edge of their seats. “You could just hear everybody bite on it, and that was so beautiful,” Rodriguez added. When Ziggler finally hit the Zig Zag and secured the three-count, the arena exploded in one of the loudest reactions in WWE history.

Ziggler’s unforgettable cash-in remains a defining moment in WWE lore, showcasing the perfect blend of storytelling and execution. Even though Ziggler is no longer with WWE, his contributions, especially moments like this, ensure his legacy remains intact.

From the surprise timing to the emotional rollercoaster of the match, it’s clear why Ziggler’s cash-in is still regarded as one of the best ever.
