CM Punk left WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble and swore never to return but he shocked fans by making a comeback at the 2023 Survivor Series. He has clearly changed over time, and Trick Williams is aware of that. He has now dismissed rumors about Punk having a bad reputation.
CM Punk gained a negative reputation during his time in AEW, especially after the infamous Brawl Out incident at AEW All Out 2022 and a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at AEW All In 2023, which led to his firing.
When Punk made his return to WWE, many fans were skeptical about how he would fit in. However, since his return, Punk has largely behaved like a model employee, surprising many who expected drama.
While speaking to Ten Count media, Trick Williams talked about his experience with CM Punk. Williams explained that before meeting Punk, he didn’t know what to expect. However, after getting to know him, he found him to be one of his top three favorite people in the wrestling business. Williams pointed out that over the years, there were many rumors about Punk, but after talking to people who actually knew him, he realized most of those rumors were just that—rumors. He also shared advice his father gave him: “Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.”
“He’s a good guy, man, like for real, for real, you know? And, um, you know, I hadn’t met him before he actually came back to WWE, and, you know, I don’t know, I didn’t really have expectations, but all I can say is, since meeting him, man, he’s gotta be one of my top three favorite people in the business. Like, he’s that good of a guy. So good to hear. Yeah, yeah, for about 10 years, you’d hear rumblings of rumors, but when you actually talk to people who actually talk to him, suddenly you realize those are just rumblings, those are just rumors, everything on the internet, for sure. Yeah, don’t believe anything. My dad always told me, ‘Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.'”
Williams even credited CM Punk for helping him and his real-life girlfriend Lash Legend begin their on-screen NXT storyline. Therefore, Williams has a lot of faith in CM Punk and couldn’t care less about the negative rumors about Punk and Williams will never change his opinion of Punk no matter what.
