Bobby Lashley had an impressive career in WWE, winning multiple championships during his time with the company. However, he is no longer with WWE and has now revealed how his contract came to an end.
Bobby Lashley was moved to the Alumni section, and it was confirmed that The Almighty had parted ways with WWE. Fans were saddened by his departure as they felt Lashley had so much more offer to the company.
While speaking on The Lame Guys podcast, Bobby Lashley talked about how his WWE contract ended and his plans before leaving. He said he expected some positive reactions when he went to AEW but noticed many fans were commenting, “Go back to WWE.” He explained that it wasn’t his choice, as WWE decided not to renew his contract and moved on.
“I kind of knew it was going to be something like that, where there would be a little bit of a positive response. I didn’t know how it was going to be going over to AEW because, honestly, a lot of people were commenting under my messages saying, ‘Go back to WWE, go back to WWE.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t think it’s really my choice here.’ WWE kind of decided, ‘We’re not going to renew with you, so we’re going to move on.’
Lashley shared that he still feels he has more to give. He had hoped to stay with WWE for another year or two and then retire. He was working with The Street Profits and had planned for either Dawkins or Montez to turn on him, leading to a feud with each of them and eventually both taking him out.
The former WWE Champion said there were a few people he really wanted to work with before retiring, including Dawkins, Montez, Austin Theory and LA Knight. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance to do those storylines.
“For me, I’ve always looked at it as I still have so much more to give, and I still want to. Would I have hoped to stay with WWE? Absolutely. My plan was to have maybe one or two more years and then retire with WWE. I was working with The Street Profits, and what I ultimately wanted at the end of that was for Dawkins or Montez to turn on me. I wanted to have a feud with one of them, then the other, and eventually have both of them take me out.
Like I’ve always said, those two guys are amazingly talented, and I wanted to get beat in that storyline. There were three or four people I really wanted to work with before retiring. It was definitely Dawkins, definitely Montez, Austin Theory—I wanted to turn him babyface—and I never had the opportunity to really do something with LA Knight. Those are the kinds of things I had hoped to do before stepping away.”
Even Montez Ford vented his frustrations about the Street Profits’ current situation after Bobby Lashley’s WWE departure. While there’s no guarantee Lashley will ever return to WWE, anything can happen in wrestling. In the meantime, Lashley is more focused on his current run in AEW and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
