Earlier this year, there was growing talk of London hosting WrestleMania, especially after London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan showed interest in bringing the event to the UK’s capital. In light of this, Nick Aldis has shared his thoughts on why fans will eventually see WrestleMania at Wembley Stadium.
It was previously reported that WWE was discussing having a WrestleMania event take place in London. In fact, even Triple H revealed the reason why WWE is considering London as host for future WrestleMania.
Even John Cena also believes London earned the chance to host WrestleMania and fans were hoping it would become a reality after Triple H and Sadiq Khan had a very productive meeting about the same earlier this year. Nothing is impossible in the world of professional wrestling and fans were convinced this meant WrestleMania taking place in London as well.
While speaking during an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Nick Aldis made it clear that he believes that one day WrestleMania will be held at Wembley Stadium. He pointed out that the Mayor of London promised during their campaign to try to bring WrestleMania to the stadium.
Aldis noted that the Mayor of London is a very important political figure, second only to the Prime Minister. He found it surprising that someone running for such a big job would focus on getting WrestleMania to London, showing just how important WWE has become globally.
“Yeah, absolutely. I don’t think you’d have the Mayor of London campaigning, Chris, using it like he pledged to try to get WrestleMania at Wembley in his campaign for Mayor of London. I mean, what else is there that solidifies the status of WWE? Mayor of London is not a small political position in the UK. It’s sort of like, kind of the second most sought after position after PM because it’s the precursor to being PM. It’s like, when did you ever think that someone running for Mayor for London would be like, ‘re-elect me I’m gonna do everything I can to bring WrestleMania to Wembley Stadium.'”
However, Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter previously reported that WrestleMania is no longer the top priority for London, as the NFL has shown interest in hosting the Super Bowl at Wembley Stadium. Nonetheless, we’ll have to see whether WrestleMania will eventually take place at Wembley Stadium somewhere down the line.
