Adam Cole has faced numerous challenges with injuries during his AEW career. Although some might label him as injury prone, he’s not letting that stop him, and he has competed at a high level since his return.

In 2022, Adam Cole suffered back-to-back concussions that left him sidelined for nine months. After recovering, a severe ankle injury in 2023 kept him out of action for over a year. He finally made his triumphant return at AEW Fright Night Dynamite on October 30, where he defeated Buddy Matthews.

While speaking with PennLive, Adam Cole reflected on the struggles of the past two years. It has certainly been one for the storybooks, because he’s faced a few challenges, both personally and professionally.

“It really does encompass such a wild two years. Getting the back-to-back concussions and then being out for nine months and not being sure if I was going to be cleared to come back, that was incredibly stressful.”

Adam Cole explained that his ankle injury turned out to be more severe than expected, requiring a second surgery. The recovery process was more grueling than his experience with concussions. Despite the setbacks, Cole never considered retiring and focused on returning to the ring.

“It was such a combination of being so elated and so excited to be able to get back in the ring after my longest hiatus. Very excited, very grateful for that, but also so nervous. This job does require a lot, whether it’s the pressure or the athleticism. But yeah, I was petrified. I was really, really nervous about getting through it, but I’m thankful that I got through it.”

The pro wrestling world almost never saw Adam Cole wrestle again, because he considered retirement due to his concussions. He fought on, and came back, only to suffer another injury that kept him out of action for 2024. Only time will tell if he suffers another injury setback, but he’s likely not going to let anything stop him.

Adam Cole’s journey back to the ring highlights his determination and love for wrestling. He’s certainly proven his resilience, and he won’t set on the sidelines as long as he can help it. His return at AEW WrestleDream is proof of his hard work and dedication. He is now hunting down a match against MJF, however he can get it.
