Paul Wight debuted in AEW back in 2021 and has been a staple of the company since then for a variety of reasons. He was also part of an iconic music video with The Acclaimed and now the person behind the video has been revealed.
AEW previously filed a trademark for his Captain Insano character, which Wight played in the 1998 film Waterboy starring Adam Sandler. This eventually led to Wight making a cameo as Captain Insano during The Acclaimed’s music video back in 2022, which also featured parodies of Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland.
Anthony Bowens took to Twitter and revealed that as soon as Paul Wight signed with AEW, he had the idea to recreate the Captain Insano scene from The Waterboy in The Acclaimed’s music videos. They just needed the right moment and opponents. That moment finally came two years ago, and Paul was all in for the idea. Bowens thanked everyone involved in making it happen, and gave a shoutout to the team at GPW Productions for the video.
“The second @PaulWight signed with AEW, I had the idea to recreate the Captain Insano scene from The Waterboy in one of The Acclaimed’s music videos. We just needed the right opportunity and opponents. It finally came 2 years ago today and thankfully Paul was completely down for the idea. Thank you to everyone involved. ✂️ 🎥: @GPWProductions”
Paul Wight had also previously confirmed plans for a singles run as Captain Insano in the future. Wight’s cameo as Captain Insano truly made the music video memorable and fans are now glad to know that it was Anthony Bowens who was behind it all.
