‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey is one of the biggest names in the industry right now thanks to his excellent in-ring skills. He parted ways with TNA and reports suggest he is AEW-bound and now Matt Hardy has expressed some concerns about the move.
Back in October 2021, “Speedball” Mike Bailey officially joined TNA Wrestling and he saw lots of success there as a champion. He would then leave TNA Wrestling after his contract expired on November 1st. According to Fightful Select, it was noted that Mike Bailey is set to make his way to AEW.
While speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy believes that Mike Bailey would be a great fit for AEW because of his style and the type of matches AEW focuses on. He praised Bailey for being an amazing athlete and having a strong understanding of classic wrestling and storytelling. Hardy enjoyed working with Bailey and was impressed by his skills, both in the ring and his knowledge of wrestling.
However, Hardy is concerned that Bailey might have a hard time standing out in AEW since the roster is full of talented wrestlers with unique styles. He wants AEW to give Bailey the chance to show off what makes him special so he doesn’t get overlooked.
“I think he’s an ideal fit for AEW, especially with their style and the kind of matches they typically aim to produce on television. He’s going to do great out there. I have nothing but the greatest things to say about Mike Bailey. My time working with him has been a pleasure—he really gets it.
He understands classic wrestling and storytelling a lot better than I initially expected. I knew him as a guy who did all these flashy, super cool, fancy moves. He’s an incredible athlete, but he also has a great mind for the business.
The one concern I have for him in AEW is that, with so many people there who have amazing styles and high work rates, I just hope he doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. I really hope they allow him to stand out in the way that ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey truly can.”
We will have to wait and see whether Mike Bailey will make his way to AEW this year, as many fans feel he could debut during the Continental Classic tournament, which would be an ideal starting point for him to show off his incredible in-ring skills to the AEW audience.
