RVD is widely regarded as one of the most technically skilled pro wrestlers in the industry. The wrestling icon built his legacy in ECW but has now accused Vince McMahon of intentionally trying to destroy ECW.

ECW started in 1994 under Paul Heyman and became famous for its hardcore style. The promotion ended in 2001 but returned briefly as part of WWE’s Invasion storyline. Vince McMahon bought ECW’s assets in 2003 and began bringing it back in 2005 with new content, merchandise, documentaries, and pay-per-view events. ECW then operated as a WWE brand from 2006 to 2010, featuring a weekly show called ECW on Sci-Fi.

While speaking during an interview on Busted Open Radio, RVD shared his thoughts on why WWE might have revived ECW. He accused Vince McMahon of bringing it back just to ruin it, especially since McMahon didn’t like when fans chanted “E-C-W!” during WWE shows. RVD pointed out that, at one point, McMahon even wore the ECW Championship and replaced the original ECW stars with new wrestlers, which he saw as WWE’s way of making a statement.

“When WWE brought ECW back, there was several times there that could have been taken as evidence that they were just bringing it back to destroy it. I mean, Vince [McMahon] was wearing the belt, and they changed all the OG’s with The New Breed… To me, they were making a statement there, and I know Vince didn’t like it when the fans would chant ECW during his shows when some of us [that] are represented were in the ring.”

As for RVD himself, he made an appearance during the November 6 episode of NXT and helped Je’Von Evans in defeating Wes Lee but it was clear RVD wasn’t done. Regardless, we’ll have to see when the WWE Hall of Famer will return, as fans want the ECW legend back for more.
