WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has enjoyed an incredible career, with a remarkable rookie year that quickly made him a wrestling legend. Throughout his time in WWE, he faced many top stars, including John Cena. In fact, he has now addressed the possibility of returning to WWE for a match against Cena.

Angle hasn’t competed in the ring for over five years as his last match was against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in 2019, which turned out to be his final bout, and he has never competed since then.

John Cena previously revealed that he will help transition WWE RAW to Netflix as part of his retirement tour next year. His final wrestling appearances are slated for major events, including the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 2025. Instead of having just one retirement match, Cena’s farewell tour will span multiple dates, ending in December 2025.

While speaking on The Takedown, Kurt Angle was asked about possibly returning to the ring to square off against John Cena. Kurt Angle explained that he can’t do it because his body isn’t up to it anymore. He mentioned having had five neck surgeries, a recent back surgery, and that he’ll need shoulder replacements, making it impossible for him to wrestle again.

Angle shared that he’s filming a CBS commercial for the Steelers versus Ravens game, where he’ll wear a Steelers singlet, and Kyle Brandt will wear a Ravens singlet for a fun pregame promo. Angle joked that while he could use a stunt double, he’ll be doing his own stunts. He admitted he could probably step into the ring but doesn’t want to risk getting hurt again.

“A lot of people ask me if I’d wrestle Cena for his retirement match. No, no—I mean, listen, my body needs replacements. I’ve had five neck surgeries, back surgery last year, and I need shoulder replacements. I’m in no condition to be getting in the ring and wrestling.

Don’t get me wrong—I can still do some things. Actually, tomorrow, I’m doing a commercial for CBS for the Steelers versus Ravens game. I’m going to dress up in a Steelers singlet, and Kyle Brandt is going to be in a Ravens singlet, and we’re going to go at it. It’s for a pregame commercial for Sunday’s Steelers-Ravens game, so I’m looking forward to that.

You know, they could always yell ‘cut’ and bring in a stunt double, but no, I’ll do my own stunts. That’s about all I can handle, though. I don’t think I could get back in the ring for a real match. I might be able to physically, but I don’t want to risk getting injured.”

That being said, Kurt Angle has already confirmed that a movie based on his life is already in the works. Regardless, fans shouldn’t hope to see Kurt Angle and John Cena face each other again inside the squared circle as it’s simply not feasible anymore.
