AEW star Kenny Omega has been out of action for nearly a year after undergoing emergency surgery for diverticulitis, leaving fans eagerly awaiting his return to the ring. Recently, Omega hinted at a potential comeback during his appearance at NJPW’s Power Struggle, expressing his desire to wrestle for New Japan Pro-Wrestling again in the coming year.
During his appearance, Omega revealed his wish to compete at the upcoming AEW x NJPW Wrestle Dynasty event on January 5th. He shared his excitement about stepping back into a New Japan ring, eager to face one of the company’s rising stars and represent AEW.
In explaining why he chose to make his in-ring return in New Japan rather than AEW, Omega, in a conversation with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, stated that NJPW was the promotion that made him a household name in the world of professional wrestling and he owed them big time. He saw the opportunity to compete in the Tokyo Dome as a way to repay them for giving his career a major push.
“A lot of people, not only in Japan but internationally, didn’t know who I was until New Japan. So I really do owe New Japan a gigantic thank you. I feel that there’s a debt I have to repay in some way, shape, or form. And if making my comeback at the Tokyo Dome is a way to repay that, if it can help their business in any way, then I’m more than happy to do that.”
Furthermore, after his promo, Omega encountered NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd backstage, leading to a heated brawl. This confrontation has fueled speculation that Omega and Kidd might face off at Wrestle Dynasty, intensifying excitement among fans for the January event.
Omega’s appearance at Wrestle Dynasty was already confirmed, but his backstage clash with Kidd has left fans wondering if this will mark his long-awaited return to in-ring action. If he does step into the Tokyo Dome once again, it would be a highly anticipated comeback for Kenny Omega, who has been missed by fans worldwide.
