Samoa Joe hit a career-high by winning the AEW World Championship and was booked strongly as the champion. After dropping the title, he quickly entered a personal feud with Chris Jericho. Eventually, Joe was written off AEW television, but now we have an update regarding his television return status.

During the July 10th episode of AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho and Samoa Joe faced off in a Canadian Stampede Street Fight. In a surprising turn, Jericho used a forklift to lift Joe and drive him through a wall. The match was stopped when Joe was unable to continue, and he was stretchered out and taken to the hospital.

Joe’s absence from AEW television was part of the plan, as he took time off to film season two of Twisted Metal on Peacock. In the series, Joe plays the physical role of Sweet Tooth, with Will Arnett providing the character’s voice.

While speaking on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp was asked about Samoa Joe’s current return status. Sapp noted that Samoa Joe is expected to return sooner rather than later, as filming for Twisted Metal has wrapped up. There will be a post-production process to finalize the show, and once it’s ready for release in a few months, Joe will likely have media obligations tied to it.

“He should be back sooner than later. Twisted Metal has finished filming. They’ll have a process of putting the show together and then it’s very likely he’ll have media obligations whenever the show releases in a few months.”

Samoa Joe has been confirmed to appear in the video game Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. However, it’s expected that once Joe returns to AEW, he’ll be out for revenge on Chris Jericho. Fans will have to wait and see how Joe will be booked upon his return and what direction his feud with Jericho will take.
