Matt Riddle and Bill Goldberg had a turbulent relationship, marked by mutual dislike during their time as WWE Superstars. Although their relationship has since improved, Riddle believes Goldberg doesn’t want to face him in a retirement match.

Earlier this month, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg has officially confirmed that he will have a retirement match in 2025. Naturally, this made many fans wonder who would end up becoming his final opponent, as some want him to square off against Matt Riddle due to their history.

While speaking on Barstool Rasslin‘, Matt Riddle was asked if he wanted to square off against Goldberg in his retirement match. Riddle stated that he believes Goldberg isn’t interested in facing him in a retirement match. He shared that he and Goldberg had a conversation while on a flight back from Saudi Arabia after a Crown Jewel show. They talked over drinks and cleared the air, with Riddle feeling there’s no bad blood between them.

Riddle thinks Goldberg now understands his point of view better, and Riddle also gained a clearer understanding of why Goldberg found some of his comments disrespectful. Riddle emphasized that he didn’t mean to offend him and explained that, as professional wrestlers, he just speaks facts and can back them up. Ultimately, Riddle feels that’s just the reality of the situation.

“I don’t think he wants to step up to the plate. You know, we’re keeping it real.”

Well, me and Bill, we’ve talked. We were actually on a flight from Saudi after one of the Crown Jewel shows, and we had some cocktails and had a discussion. You know, I don’t think there’s any bad blood. I think he has more of an understanding of where I was coming from. Yeah, you know, I definitely have an understanding of where he’s coming from and why he finds what I say disrespectful and things like that. I completely understand, but I don’t mean it that way. We’re professional wrestlers. I’m just about facts, and I can back it up. This is just what it is, you know?”

Matt Riddle has also revealed that Goldberg bragged about his bank account to him during their first interaction. Nonetheless, Riddle and Goldberg will always have an interesting relationship but fans shouldn’t expect to see them face each other anytime soon.
