WWE is usually the end goal for just now professional wrestlers but lately, players from other sports have also shown interest in pursuing a career in the company. In fact, ex-NFL player Trill Williams has now signed a contract with WWE as well.
Former NFL defensive back Trill Williams has reportedly signed with WWE to start a new career in professional wrestling. According to Bobby Shouse from The Dive Bar Podcast, Williams had a successful tryout with WWE, which led to the contract offer. The tryout took place during SummerSlam weekend and he clearly impressed many to be offered a contract.
“Former Dolphin Trill Williams has signed with the @WWE & will pursue a career in Wrestling. Trill originally attended a tryout for the @WWE over the summer & has since began working with the company.”
Williams, 24, played college football at Syracuse University from 2018 to 2020, where he made a name for himself with four interceptions. Although he wasn’t selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints, but after being waived, he was picked up by the Miami Dolphins.
Williams played in five games during the 2021 season, contributing on both defense and special teams. Unfortunately, a torn ACL in August 2022 kept him on injured reserve, and he was eventually waived by the Dolphins in August 2023, marking the end of his football career.
Williams will join the ranks of many former football players who have transitioned to wrestling. He’ll begin his training at WWE’s Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, where he’ll have the chance to hone his skills and potentially make his debut on WWE’s NXT brand, so it remains to be seen whether he will find success as a WWE Superstar.
