Jake Hager wasn’t one of the biggest stars in AEW, but he got attention because of his connection with Chris Jericho. After parting ways with AEW, Hager made news by supporting Donald Trump and criticizing AEW owner Tony Khan. In fact, he has now been called out for being hypocritical about his comments.
The U.S. Presidential Elections encouraged many professional wrestlers, who once kept their political views private, to speak out. Jake Hager is one of these wrestlers, openly expressing his strong support for Donald Trump, especially because of Trump’s stance against abortion.
“Yes i am support Trump . Yes im against killing babies . I guess that makes me a racist.”
Jake Hager didn’t really just stop at revealing his support for Trump; he went further by accusing Tony Khan of being a communist and claimed that Khan attempted to silence him and threatened his job for promoting Donald Trump.
“Tony khan is someone who threaten my job if i didnt stop promoting my trump. He js a communist”
After Jake Hager’s controversial comments about Tony Khan and Donald Trump, Blitzkrieg Pro announced that he would no longer be appearing at their event on December 14th in Enfield, CT.
“Jake Hagar will no longer be appearing on December 14th in Enfield, CT. On top of sponsors no longer being willing to work with him, we also just have to do what we think is right for our roster and fans. We’re going to get to work on a replacement asap, however, a few people that are signed to appear:“
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Jim Cornette talked about Jake Hager’s rant against Tony Khan, especially after calling him a communist. Cornette said it didn’t make sense for Hager to say that while working for Khan, who pays him one of the highest salaries in wrestling history. He pointed out that just because someone wants a fair and rational world doesn’t mean they’re a communist.
“What does that have to do with the—no, don’t say this batshit stuff while you work for me, where you’re a communist, especially with one of the most well-paid, undeserved jobs in the history of wrestling? Why do all these simpletons think that everybody’s a communist just because they want a decent, rational world?”
Cornette stated that Hager is losing his brain cells and also wondered if Hager was drunk after celebrating Donald Trump’s victory and just said a bunch of foolish things. He thought Tony Khan probably told Hager to stop saying stupid stuff before it hurt AEW’s reputation, suggesting that if Hager didn’t stop, Khan might cancel his shows and give him indie bookings instead.
Cornette added that Hager had been with AEW for a long time, making a lot of money, and even appeared on the very first episode of Dynamite. Even though Hager thought Khan was a “communist,” Cornette pointed out that Hager never complained when he was getting paid.
“He’s losing brain cells first, though. What the hell? Did he get drunk celebrating his Trump victory and just blurt out a bunch of stupid s***, or does he act this way normally? And that’s why Tony Khan said, ‘Hey, quit saying stupid s***, or they’ll be canceling my shows instead of your indie bookings.
CTE is a hell of a drug. Again, this guy had a job in AEW for a very long time, making a lot of money. He debuted on the very first Dynamite, making a lot of money. He worked for a communist. Yeah, he wasn’t complaining when Tony was giving him the money. He wasn’t complaining then.”
For his part, Jake Hager already addressed his controversial tweets and doubled down on his claims, making it clear he didn’t feel he said anything wrong. Jake Hager’s support for Donald Trump and his comments about Tony Khan being a communist have damaged his reputation in wrestling. As a result, it may be difficult for him to find work in the industry for a while and he simply has to face the consequences now.
