Grayson Waller worked hard to make himself one of the must-see stars throughout his WWE run and he finds pleasure in being an absolute menace to society. That’s why it comes as no surprise that loves dragging loves during each town he visits and has now revealed his strategy for it.

The Australian star has made it abundantly clear he hates just about every single country in the world except Australia. Last year, he made headlines after comparing women in Scotland to Shrek and that’s just one of many ways he can irritate fans.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Grayson Waller explained his method for dragging local fans in each town he visits, saying that being a heel in wrestling takes real skill. For him, it’s easy because it’s close to his true personality—he enjoys playful teasing, something he calls “banter” from his Australian background. He likes to say harsh things to people’s faces but speaks nicely behind their backs.

“I think there’s a real talent in what we do as performers, and especially being a ‘heel.’ It’s not easy, and I think it comes naturally to me. Anyone who knows me knows that this ‘Grayson Waller’—that’s who I am. This isn’t necessarily a character; man, this is what I do. And I think it’s a bit of the Australian in me, too. We call it ‘banter,’ but I say horrible things to my friends’ faces and nice things behind their backs.”

Waller also plans his performances carefully, picking specific ways to upset the crowd. He shared a recent example from Edmonton where he wore a Florida Panthers jersey, knowing it would annoy the local hockey fans without him needing to say anything. The Panthers had beaten Edmonton’s team in the playoffs, so he didn’t have to do more than wear the jersey to make fans mad. This attention to detail he believes, makes his performances even more effective.

“So, I think guys like me put effort into what we do. Yes, it comes naturally—I can just think of things off the top of my head; I have that kind of talent. But I also think about things, like I know where I’m going, I know the town I’m in. Recently, I had a lot of fun with it. I wore a Florida Panthers jersey in Edmonton—that’s just a little thing, but I know that town, I know that city, I know that sport. I could go out and say, ‘Your sports team sucks,’ but I didn’t say a word. I just wore the jersey, and I knew how passionate those fans were, how close they were to getting to the Stanley Cup, and how the Panthers took it from them. I saw the guys in the front row, and it’s like… just that little extra effort.

“Best part? I don’t even watch much hockey, so I had no idea who the player was! But I saw a guy in the front row who was very upset. And Canadians—you know, they don’t always have the biggest sense of humor, especially about hockey. How dare you! He was extremely upset, and later, when he came backstage and walked past me, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. But that’s part of the fun.”

Grayson Waller continues to be a true heel in WWE and there is simply no stopping him as he knows he has the ability to easily get under fans’ skins without any effort and that’s unlikely to stop anytime soon.
