Olympic gold medalist and two-time NCAA wrestling champion Gable Steveson is set to make a triumphant return to the University of Minnesota wrestling team for a fifth season.
Utilizing an NCAA waiver that grants extra eligibility due to an Olympic redshirt and a COVID-19 eligibility extension, Steveson’s return was confirmed by head coach Brandon Eggum.
Steveson, one of the most accomplished athletes in the university’s history, boasts an impressive 85-2 collegiate record and a remarkable 52-match winning streak. The wrestling star expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the mat.
“I am excited to return to the University of Minnesota and compete with my teammates for one last season. I look forward to putting on a show for the fans and going out with a bang.”
After a stint with WWE and a brief time on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad in the NFL, Steveson’s highly anticipated season debut is set for November 24.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of one of collegiate wrestling’s brightest stars, as Steveson looks to solidify his legacy with one final run.
