Big Bill has become a staple in AEW, but before making his mark, the towering star considered staying with TNA. In 2021, Bill joined TNA’s roster, working on a per-show basis. However, when AEW came knocking in 2022, he pushed for more commitment from TNA, which they ultimately declined.

Speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Big Bill reflected on his journey and the transition to AEW. “Per show. For a certain amount of time, I couldn’t do certain other promotions. That ran out. Then I was on a handshake deal,” he shared about his TNA contract situation. As he started hearing interest from other wrestling promotions, he made a move to secure his future.

“I asked them for a contract, they were like, ‘We don’t want to pay that much.’ I totally understand that and hat’s what I thought I could get elsewhere. I worked on a handshake deal with them, and then the opportunity came with AEW,” Bill revealed.

Bill’s gamble paid off, as he debuted in AEW on May 4, 2022, facing Wardlow. Since joining, Bill has reached new heights, including becoming a tag team champion.
