The allegations from Janel Grant against Vince McMahon have greatly damaged his reputation as a business leader. Claims of sex trafficking and sexual abuse have overshadowed McMahon’s legacy in the entertainment world. In fact, Grant’s attorney has claimed that more potential victims have reached out after the lawsuit.

Janel Grant accused Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis of serious misconduct, including sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking, with allegations dating back to March 2019 and a lot of things have come to light after the lawsuit was made in January this year. WWE previously joined McMahon in filing a motion to compel arbitration, signaling a concerted effort to resolve the dispute privately.

While speaking to SEScoops, Janel Grant’s attorney Ann Callis said that Grant’s fight against WWE and Vince McMahon has inspired other women in the wrestling industry to share their own stories of abuse. Callis praised Janel for her courage in speaking out, hoping it would encourage others to do the same. She mentioned that several people had contacted her, and they are going through a process to support these individuals. Callis credited Grant with giving other women the confidence to make their voices heard.

“I can say generally Janel has been courageous in speaking out about her situation,” Callis said. “Her hope is she is an example to other people who feel that they are not alone and they can speak out themselves and we have been seeing that. I have had several people contact me and we are doing vetting and going through that process.”

Callis, without addressing Grant’s specific NDA, talked about the general effects of non-disclosure agreements in workplaces. She explained that NDAs have often been misused, which has led to new laws aimed at protecting individuals who have experienced harassment or assault on the job.

“They have been weaponized and I think that’s why recent laws have been passed in order to protect men and women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted in the workplace.”

Before the stay was issued in the McMahon civil suit, lawyers for McMahon, Laurinaitis, and WWE requested a hearing to decide if Grant would be required to address her claims in an arbitration hearing based on her NDA. Callis noted that similar language isn’t only found in NDAs but also in employment paperwork and contracts. She explained that many of these arbitration clauses don’t always hold up in court and that recent laws and legal precedents should give people more confidence if they choose to pursue their cases in court.

When you’re faced with a multi-national corporation or a multi-billion dollar company, there’s a lot of road blocks that you will see when you are faced with protecting your children and feeding them,” Callis said. “It’s an unfortunate situation people find themselves in but recent legislation, case law and precednet should make these people better about their situation.”

The federal lawsuit against Vince McMahon is currently on hold pending federal investigation and remains in stay until December 11. In the meantime, Vince McMahon has been trying to fix his tarnished reputation, but the Netflix documentary did him no favors. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how the trafficking lawsuit will progress once the federal investigation concludes.
