WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg always knows how to get people talking no matter what. This time around, it’s about his impending retirement match next year but it appears an AEW employee hopes Goldberg can be brought into AEW after his WWE retirement match.
Goldberg made headlines this month after he announced to the world that he will have his retirement match in 2025, which has led many people to speculate who would end up being his opponent.
While speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross talked about how he’d love to see Goldberg AEW before he retires: Goldberg. Ross shared a memory of Goldberg playing high school football as a defensive tackle for the Edison Eagles, noting he was incredibly athletic even back then.
Ross thinks that if Goldberg decided to join AEW after his 2025 WWE retirement, it could be a great move, not just for one match but as a way to gain visibility for other projects. He believes there could be a big payday in it for Goldberg, and it could put him back in the public eye.
“When he was 17-years-old, I was officiating high school football, and he was playing for the Edison Eagles — defensive tackle — and he ain’t been blocked yet. He’s an athletic freak, without question … Hey, look, there’s a big pay day there for him, and our agent, Barry Bloom, it gets him restarted as far as awareness is concerned for other projects. It may be one-off in the ring, but it’s a multi-level prospect if he does it … if he gets himself back on television.”
Goldberg previously revealed having engaged in discussions with AEW President Tony Khan on multiple occasions. However, Goldberg ultimately felt AEW was far ”too cheesy’ for his liking. Regardless, only time will tell whether Goldberg will make his way to AEW following his WWE retirement.
